About Construction
When the 5 waterworks are completed, they will be able to supply Danes with 50 million cubic meters of clean water per year. This is roughly equivalent to supplying 350,000 households. HOFOR is at the forefront of this extensive modernization. The plant at Søndersø is one of the largest, which was completed at the end of 2022 with its 6,000m2.
Modernization has paved the way for some of the most complicated water purification techniques. The technical installations have been a particular focus. The lighting is a small part of the technical undertaking, but a significant one, as extra stringent regulations had to be complied with. Because without the usual tightness classes, the project focused on a low UGR and high energy efficiency. These are two parameters that are not always easy to achieve. With a shield for the lighting fixtures, we succeeded in delivering a lighting system that not only has a very high lm/W, but also delivers a low UGR, so glare is at a low level.
The lighting system
Lumega has been the main supplier and shared the delivery with two other lighting suppliers. This included parts of the exterior lighting and some individual areas in the building. Technical lighting in the waterworks and all administration has been supplied by Lumega. Our lighting system consists of the luminaires listed below:
NS59, basic luminaire with extra efficient shielding for lower UGR. The luminaire is delivered with a high system energy efficiency, ensuring the lux level could be met with low energy consumption.
Administration and adjoining rooms for employees are equipped with NS10 downlight, NS60 panel luminaire, NS50 linear luminaire and NS44 wall light for stair towers. All luminaires with high energy efficiency.
Lumega has also been responsible for the delivery of LED hand lamps, which are approved for EX areas. These hand lamps are used in relation to safety in case of power failure in the building.
Although there were many versions of the lighting calculation, COWI and Lumega came up with the right location and values that meet the necessary requirements for such a lighting installation.
Contractors involved
With NCC as the main contractor and CD Automation as the electrical contractor, there has been a good and professional dialog throughout the process. The same was true with the architectural firm PLH Arkitekter and COWI, who were responsible for advising on the project. Throughout the process, the client HOFOR has shown great interest in maintaining quality and putting the requirements into perspective.
Industrial lighting
Several industries have tightened their lighting requirements and have therefore not yet switched to LED lighting. This is despite the fact that there are huge energy savings to be made. Energy savings are not everything for industrial companies, which is why closing times for a production company must always be taken into account when replacing lighting. At the same time, focus on the quality of the light. There are many examples of LED lighting installations that only look at energy savings. This is the easiest to achieve. Light quality and a good working environment can be difficult. Therefore, professional lighting design and assessment of which types of lighting make the most sense for the respective areas should always be carried out. Søndersø Waterworks had high demands. Yours don't have to be on the same level.
