About Nordforbrændingen
Nordforbrændingen is an electricity and heat power plant located north of Copenhagen in Hørsholm. The power plant takes the region's waste, burns it and converts it into energy in the form of both electricity and heat. Most of the power plant was outdated, and the mayor of Hørsholm, together with the director of Nordforbrændingen, wanted to make the power plant more energy efficient. Lumega was called in to provide the correct guidance for the design of the plant. We at Lumega consulted and guided the engineers in charge of the project to ensure that the plant met the stricter energy requirements.
The lighting system
With the goal of making the entire power plant more energy efficient, Nordforbrændingen wanted a completely new lighting system. Nordforbrændingen needed a powerful lighting system that was also highly reliable - the perfect task for an LED system. The workers at the power plant handle heavy and powerful machinery on a daily basis in the areas around the large furnaces. This requires a certain reliability in the brightness of the light around the work areas. So to ensure the safety of the employees and a constant operation at the power plant, lux level and correct color temperature were some of the most important parameters on this project.
The actual operating conditions for the LED system at Nordforbrændingen could not be much better. The high roof and constant airflow in the tall building keeps the temperature down, which could result in an unlimited lifespan for the LED system. A neutral light color was chosen for the power plant, ensuring nice and clear lighting across all work areas of the power plant. Since our LED installation, the workers at the power plant have expressed their satisfaction with the brightness and thus the overall working environment. Both the mayor of Hørsholm and the director of Nordforbrændingen also have their reasons to be satisfied with the LED system, as it will ensure them at least a 50% energy saving. Nordforbrændingen can now continue their work of supplying all of North Zealand with district heating - the only difference is that this work will now be done greener, cheaper and in a much better light.
