Kulturhus Trommen

Hørsholm municipality has a building most people are familiar with. Trommen is a cultural center in Hørsholm. Trommen is located in the same building as Hørsholm library and thus forms the framework for a good center in the municipality. The building was designed by architect Knud Munk and was inaugurated in 1988.

The project

The operations department at Hørsholm municipality aims to cut at least 2% of their total CO2 emissions per year. This is a concrete and tangible goal. The lighting project has helped lift this percentage. The building was constructed in 1988 and the lighting was implemented with special respect for the art of architecture. However, after 32 years, the lamps had served their purpose. The lamps were energy inefficient and it became a problem with spare parts. The challenge with spare parts meant the municipality had to look for other solutions. What the operations department knew at an early stage was that the new lamps were not an off-the-shelf product. Thus, standard LED downlights could not be used. Several lighting suppliers came in for a meeting with the municipality. Many good offers were received to solve the challenge of maintaining the iconic red cross in the center of the lamp. Lumega came in for another meeting with Hørsholm municipality. They discussed lighting in a general sense. Until this project was mentioned. Lumega took up the challenge. The very next day, our product engineer came on board. He redesigned our NS11 so we could get to the finish line faster without developing a completely new lamp.

The process then proceeded with correspondence between Hørsholm Municipality and Lumega in the hope of eventually reaching the finish line. After the second mock-up, it was there. Lumega had found exactly what Hørsholm municipality had been looking for for so long. All in all, it is a project of almost 1,000 specially designed LED downlights with DALI control.

The lighting system

Lumega's product engineer redesigned our NS11 downlight. In addition, we have ensured excellent light quality. Not only has the library gained significantly more light, but they have also been able to introduce daylight sensors and save even more energy. The energy savings have not yet been mapped after implementation, but Lumega expects a payback time of less than 5 years including installation costs. With the long lifespan of the Samsung LEDs and oversized cooling surface of the lamp, the municipality can look forward to a virtually maintenance-free lighting system. More light, better comfort with control and, not least, a significantly better quality of light. The interior of the building has changed completely and even a politician from Hørsholm municipality has shown his enthusiasm for the new beautiful lighting installation.
