About Kold College

Kold College is a Danish educational institution located in the south of Odense. The main focus is on food, agriculture and dairy. Its history dates back to 1862, when Christian Kold founded the college in Dalum. In 2009, the school was named Denmark's best vocational school.

This is a comprehensive renewal and energy renovation of the educational institution Kold College. Almost all lighting has been replaced with LED lighting, resulting in significant energy savings. This not only makes the school stand in a fantastic light, but also future-proofs the school in relation to the new phase-out of fluorescent tubes.

The energy savings speak for themselves

Kold College is an educational institution with many different types of spaces. There are production areas within the bakery, classrooms, offices and common areas. Several areas therefore required extra focus when converting to LED lighting. With sensor technology that turns off the lights when there is less activity and the energy-efficient LED lighting, the energy consumption has been significantly reduced. The energy savings exceed 50%, ensuring the school a favorable payback time. The perception of the light is better due to the higher light quality, and the light level is also raised compared to the older lighting equipped with fluorescent tubes.

The lighting system

There are several different types of lighting solutions in this project. The entrance area received the biggest upgrade where a completely new lighting system was installed. The round luminaire NS40 was suspended in wire, which in combination with the round surface-mounted luminaire NS42 provides a nice and open entrance area at the school.

The large sports hall has installed the NS64 sports neck luminaire. The luminaire delivers a high light output and in combination ensures a high light level with low glare. The sports hall is used for many activities, which placed extra demands on the lighting control, which Lumega advised on.

All hallways have been fitted with T8 LED tubes, which has approximately halved energy consumption. Several other common areas have received either new LED lighting fixtures or retrofit LED replacements. The project used a combination of 3000K and 4000K depending on the area. The overall energy savings from the LED lighting replacement hits over 50%, making a positive contribution to the school's financial budget. In addition, the replacement is predicted to minimize service costs for years to come.

Energy renovation of lighting

Schools and many other buildings with fluorescent lighting are facing a major conversion of their older lighting. Today, there are many options for conversion. In most cases, it is an economically advantageous conversion - in addition, the comfort and quality of light can be increased. These two parameters ensure a better atmosphere and in many cases can improve workflows and minimize sick days in the long run.
