Stair lighting with LED

Are you looking for good staircase lighting for your business, residential building or perhaps for a public staircase?

Then you've stepped on the right step. At Lumega, we have made it our mission to create functional and modern lighting for stairs. Every week, we deliver hundreds of luminaires that are used to illuminate staircases in new buildings. The importance of a well-lit staircase is undeniable. Failure to comply with legislation in this area can have consequences in the form of falls due to insufficient or missing light.

Lighting with the user in mind

When choosing lighting for stairs, think about the user. Perhaps different people use the stairs at different times of the day? It is essential that the staircase is illuminated with the right color temperature so that everyone can use the stairs safely.

We have experience helping a wide segment of customers - including everything from contractors with large housing developments to private companies that have stairs in their premises. Everything within public institutions is also an area we cover.

Intelligent stair lighting

LED lighting has always been the easiest light source to control. That's why with the latest lighting controls, there are now many opportunities to bring even more comfort to Stairways, increase safety and achieve incredible energy savings. Lumega can implement light controls that communicate with each other in selected stairwell lights.

When there is movement on one of the floors, the lights will turn on - and not just the movement, but the rest of the lights will turn on at 100%. From there, after the movement has stopped, they will dim the light to, for example, 20% - this brings great energy savings, but without sacrificing safety.

FAQs

  • In most cases, the answer is yes. In a few cases, the wiring and cables are so old that it is simply not possible. If the condition is good, intelligent LED lighting fixtures with sensors that talk to each other can be installed. The latest technology at a reasonable price.

  • Lawsuits over missing or no lights on stairs are not something that only happens in the US. It's very common in Europe for individuals to sue private companies or condominium associations for falling on the stairs.

There is no doubt that a lawsuit should be taken seriously and if the person has actually fallen due to insufficient or no lighting, it is wise to get new lighting installed quickly.

Years ago, many types of lamps could be used in Stairways, but as soon as it is residential buildings, hotels, office buildings or staircases in public areas, there must be full focus on ensuring that all safety requirements are met, because if they are not and the health and safety inspectorate comes out and takes measurements afterwards, or can otherwise document that the injury occurred due to too little light or something else, it will be the company or institution that will be fined for not meeting the standards.

We design the lighting system so that it meets the latest European requirements in terms of lighting and electrical engineering. There are many safety checkpoints before the staircase can be used.

  • This can be caused by many things, but if LED lighting is installed, the fault is typically a faulty driver or light source. This requires a new lamp or calling an electrician who can either temporarily disconnect the power so it stops flashing or replace it on site.

  • In some cases on smaller staircases, such as the back staircase, an LED bulb will provide enough light to be safe. On main staircases, the LED bulb will not provide enough light for the lighting installation to meet the new European requirements. In such cases, the old lamp must be replaced with a new one with an LED light source. The hint is that approximately 18-30W is needed to achieve the required light level on the stairs.
