Guide: LED lighting for airports

The summer vacation is coming to an end, which means that airports around the world can take a little break before the fall break begins and the gates are once again packed with people eager to travel. And airports are exactly what this week's blog post is all about. We take a closer look at how airports can minimize energy consumption by switching to indoor and outdoor LED lighting.

International airports usually cover several square kilometers, and this large area naturally needs to be illuminated. For many years, airports have used incandescent bulbs or metal halide light sources, but today more and more airports are choosing to invest in LED lighting. There is a lot of money to be saved by replacing traditional lighting with LED.

Requirements and rules

Installing lighting in an airport can be more complicated than that. Especially when it comes to outdoor lighting, where there are a number of requirements and rules to follow. Firstly, there are strict rules regarding so-called light interference, which means that the light must not interfere with the control tower or pilots. In addition, there are restrictions on the height of the masts for the lighting fixtures, and the lighting must be able to help guide and direct the airport's passengers.

Indoor lighting

At Lumega, we offer a wide range of luminaires that meet all requirements and regulations and can therefore be installed at the airport. This includes everything from downlights to panel lights and linear luminaires.

NS11, NS47 and NS77 are three LED spotlights that are particularly suitable for indoor lighting in airports. NS11 differs from other luminaires by having an IK rating of IK10, which means that the spot can withstand external impact such as knocks and other vandalism. NS47 is one of our most energy-efficient downlights, whereas NS72 comes with an impressive color rendering of CRI90+. In other words, there is something for everyone.

In addition to LED spotlights, we offer the NS50 linear luminaire and our popular NS60 panel light, which is particularly suitable for illuminating larger rooms. NS50 is an exclusive linear luminaire that can be customized to suit every conceivable need. The luminaire can either be ceiling or wall mounted or hang from a wire as a pendant. The NS60, on the other hand, boasts an impressive energy efficiency of 142 lm/W, which can help reduce electricity bills by more than 60% compared to traditional lighting.

Outdoor lighting

In addition to the many LED luminaires for indoor use, we also offer outdoor lighting that meets the strict restrictions at airports.

NS91 is our take on a robust LED luminaire for illuminating large spaces. It also comes with IK10 and IP65, making it ideal for outdoor areas.

In addition, we offer two LED floodlights, both of which are relatively new to our range. The NS90 is a discreet but intense floodlight that, as one of the only ones on the market, is approved for lighting in extreme weather conditions. The NS94 is also an LED floodlight, but this model stands out as the most powerful in the Lumega portfolio.
